Caglar Soyuncu’s second-half strike handed Manchester City an imminent title celebration, downs Manchester United to a fifth home defeat this season.

Soyuncu sunk Manchester United in the second half to see his side keep top-four finish hopes. United luck was not on their side as they could not ignite a late comeback to keep City waiting.

As a result, Pep Guardiola’s side became the Premier League 2020/21 title champions. Speaking after becoming the title winners, Guardiola says the season was the hardest one and will always be remembered.

“This has been a season and a Premier League title like no other. This was the hardest one. We will always remember this season for the way we won. I am so proud to be the manager here and of this group of players,” Guardiola said

“They are so special. To come through this season, with all the restrictions and difficulties we’ve faced – and show the consistency we have is remarkable. It is relentless,” the Spaniard added.

“Every single day, they are there, fighting for success, trying always to be better. They have been so, so resilient,” Guardiola continued.

Pep thanked everyone in the Manchester City fraternity who worked in making them the EPL champions.

“That is equally true of each and every member of our backroom staff, who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes. To ensure that our players are fully equipped to take on the unexpected challenges and new routines throughout such a turbulent year.

“Not forgetting, of course, all the staff across our organization who work to make this club the success it is.

Also, Ilkay Gundogan echoed the celebration in a tweet, wishing they could have been crowned champions on their own game.

“Champions of England… again. I would have preferred to celebrate this moment after an own game, but I take it anyway. What a season!”
